BANJARBARU — The South Kalimantan chapter of the Indonesian Motorcycle Association (IMI Kalsel), in collaboration with the South Kalimantan Police’s Traffic Directorate (Ditlantas Polda Kalsel), held Road Safety Week 2026 on Sept. 12-13 at the SDC circuit in Landasan Ulin, Banjarbaru.
The event provided an official and safe platform for young racers and automotive communities, particularly those at risk of taking part in dangerous illegal street racing.
The event, which combined a road safety campaign with motorsport competitions, was officially opened by South Kalimantan Police chief Insp. Gen. Rosyanto Yudha Hermawan as part of celebrations marking the 71st Bhayangkara Traffic Day.
Road Safety Week featured several racing categories, including Mini GP, Road Race and Push Bike competitions for children.
More than 120 starters took part in the event, with participants coming not only from across Kalimantan but also from Java.
The event was aimed at channeling the talents of young racers, students and early-age athletes toward sanctioned racing venues where they could compete safely and in accordance with regulations.
“The event is expected to provide a safe and legal space for young people to channel their interest in motorsports while promoting greater awareness of traffic safety,” organizers said.
In addition to the racing program, the event featured a Mini Expo showcasing products from local micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), giving local businesses an opportunity to reach visitors and members of the automotive community.
Road Safety Week was held as part of the South Kalimantan Police’s commemoration of the 71st Bhayangkara Traffic Day. The opening ceremony on Saturday (Sept. 12) was attended by South Kalimantan Governor Muhidin, represented by his expert staff member for government, legal and political affairs, Adi Santoso.
Through the event, organizers sought to combine road safety education with positive activities for young motorsport enthusiasts, while encouraging them to pursue their passion on official tracks rather than on public roads.
