BANJARMASIN – Prospective Rector of Lambung Mangkurat University (ULM), Dr. Iwan Aflanie, dr. MKes, Sp.FM, SH, offered the Pentahelix concept to further advance and achieve this oldest state university in Kalimantan.
The Vice Rector I for Academic Affairs of ULM for the 2022-2026 period explained that Pentahelix is a collaborative synergy between five elements: the government, the private sector, universities, the community, and the media.
“I will collaborate with the media. The media is crucial for transparency and communication between universities and the public. It would be a shame if research results and good journals just sat in a drawer. Who would read them?” said Iwan when met at the ULM General Building in Banjarmasin on Wednesday (July 1, 2026).
The former Chairman of the Indonesian Medical Association (IDI) Banjarmasin City from 2012 to 2016 stated that the presence of media is crucial for fostering positive communication between the campus and the community outside the campus, including alumni.
As a former Vice Dean for Student Affairs and Alumni, and Vice Dean for Academic Affairs at the Faculty of Medicine, Iwan is confident that if alumni’s potential is maximized, it will become a powerful resource for ULM in the future.
“Especially if the university is able to establish synergy with four elements (government, private sector, business, community, and media), the results will be extraordinary for all of us,” said the 2019 Doctor of Medical Sciences recipient from Airlangga University, who is currently completing the requirements for the title of Professor.
