Limited Facilities Do Not Deter Pertina Banjarmasin’s Ambition to Win Gold Medals

BANJARMASIN – The Indonesian Amateur Boxing Association (Pertina) of Banjarmasin City remains committed to developing boxing athletes so they can compete and achieve success in various championships.

However, the development process is considered less than optimal due to the ongoing constraints of limited training facilities.

The Chairman of Pertina Banjarmasin, Saut Nathan Samosir, stated that athlete development is a responsibility that must be carried out continuously.

According to him, the success of producing high-achieving athletes is not only determined by the boxer’s ability, but also by adequate training facilities.

“We continue to strive to improve the quality of training so that athletes can develop and compete in every championship. However, training will certainly be more optimal if supported by adequate training facilities,” Saut said on Monday (July 13, 2026).

He revealed that Pertina Banjarmasin athletes still have to train using facilities owned by third parties because they do not have their own training center.

This situation requires training programs to adapt to the availability of space.

Therefore, Saut hopes the Banjarmasin City Government will address the needs of the boxing sport by providing a representative training facility.

“We hope the government can help provide a dedicated training facility. With its own facility, athlete development will be more focused and sustainable,” he said.

Saut explained that Pertina Banjarmasin currently trains athletes from various competition classes. Each athlete undergoes tiered training stages to ensure technical, physical, and mental readiness before competing.

According to him, a consistent training process is crucial in maintaining athlete performance at the regional and national levels.

Ahead of the 2026 competition schedule, he reminded all athletes to remain disciplined and not be complacent with their achievements.

“Never become complacent. Every athlete must continue to train and prepare diligently before competing. Discipline is key to achieving the best results,” he emphasized.

Pertina Banjarmasin, Saut continued, remains committed to achieving high goals in every competition they participate in: bringing home a gold medal and maintaining the tradition of achievement for Banjarmasin.

He is optimistic that this target can be achieved if all parties, especially the local government, provide support by providing adequate sports facilities and infrastructure.

“With adequate facilities, we are confident that the athletes will be more motivated to train and will be able to bring honor to Banjarmasin through achievements in various events,” he concluded.
