CapCut Hosts AI Content Fest 2026, Bringing Indonesia’s Creative Talent to the Big Screen

  • Through the #CapCutFilmNaikLayar campaign, CapCut is providing Indonesian creators with a bigger stage while encouraging new ways of creating with the support of AI-powered technology.

  • Ten selected works by creators from across Indonesia were screened on the big screen, showcasing diverse stories and perspectives about the country.

Jakarta – CapCut, an all-in-one video editing solution, today hosted the finale of AI Content Fest 2026, a national short film competition and festival celebrating the creativity and talent of Indonesian creators. Under the theme “Small Stories. Big Screen. One Nation,” the festival showcased 10 selected works by creators from various regions of Indonesia on the big screen at CGV Grand Indonesia (ScreenX), Jakarta.

Held in conjunction with Indonesia’s 81st Independence Day, CapCut’s first AI-powered short film festival invited creators to share stories about Indonesia—from identity and culture to everyday life, as well as experiences and hopes for the nation. Using CapCut’s range of AI-powered editing features, creators developed these stories into short films.

“Indonesia has so many stories and creative talents that deserve a bigger stage. Through AI Content Fest 2026, we want to help creators bring their perspectives to the big screen and create more opportunities for local works to be discovered and appreciated by a wider audience,” said Jessica Wowor, Head of Content Operations, CapCut Indonesia.

This initiative is aligned with the Ministry of Creative Economy/Creative Economy Agency of the Republic of Indonesia’s focus on the potential of technology to strengthen the creative industry. In 2024, the creative economy sector contributed more than IDR 1,500 trillion to Indonesia’s national GDP. The development of AI is also creating opportunities to accelerate innovation and growth across various creative economy subsectors.¹

Indonesian Creativity Takes the Big Screen

The 10 works featured at AI Content Fest 2026 presented stories shaped by diverse backgrounds, experiences, and characters, reflecting the richness of Indonesia’s cultural landscape. During the development process, the finalists leveraged solutions such as CapCut Video Studio and various creative features within the app, including AI-powered tools, to explore their ideas and visuals. The finalists’ creative journeys were also previously introduced to audiences through the online campaign #CapCutFilmNaikLayar.

At the finale, each film was screened on the big screen and subsequently evaluated and discussed by five creative industry professionals: Angga Dwimas Sasongko, Mouly Surya, Upie Guava, Dinda Prasetyo, and Gustav Anandhita. Through these sessions, the finalists not only had the opportunity to introduce their work to a wider audience, but also received direct perspectives and feedback from industry professionals on their ideas, visuals, and storytelling.

“We want creators to see CapCut not simply as a video editing tool, but as a space where they can explore ideas and take their creativity further. Through various creative features, including AI-powered tools, we want to help creators experiment with more ambitious formats, visuals, and storytelling approaches—including those looking to grow into film and entertainment. We hope that more ideas that once felt difficult to bring to life can develop into works ready to be enjoyed by audiences,” Jessica added.

As a form of appreciation for the participants’ creativity, AI Content Fest 2026 also announced winners across eight award categories: Student Awards, Most Popular AI Microfilm, Special Selection Award, Best Story, Best Visual, Jury’s Special Mention, Next Icon Award, and Best AI Micro Film.

Creating in the AI Era: When Technology Meets Human Creativity

The AI Content Fest finale also featured a discussion with creative industry professionals Lukman Sardi, Mouly Surya, and Gustav Anandhita on how technology, including AI, can support different needs throughout the creative process. All three viewed AI as a supporting tool that can expand creative exploration and make workflows more efficient. However, creative direction, emotion, and final decisions remain in human hands.

From an actor’s perspective, Lukman Sardi sees technology as a tool that can enrich the process of character preparation and exploration. “Technology can help actors access more references, understand a character’s background, and explore different approaches before stepping into a scene. With a more efficient preparation process, actors have more room to focus on how the character is interpreted and brought to life,” Lukman explained.

Meanwhile, filmmaker Mouly Surya highlighted how AI can support producers and directors from development through production. “Technology can help us explore ideas at an early stage, find references, visualize a concept, and experiment with different creative directions before entering production. When certain processes can be completed more efficiently, the team has more time to focus on the work’s broader vision and the creative decisions that ultimately shape the final result,” Mouly added.

From a creator’s perspective, Gustav Anandhita sees AI as a means of expanding exploration while accelerating the creative process. “AI gives creators more room to experiment—from developing ideas and trying different visual approaches to iterating more quickly. This efficiency allows us to explore more possibilities and take an idea further without losing sight of the creative direction we want to build,” Gustav concluded.

The use of technology in the creative process was also showcased through CapCut’s collaboration with musician Raim Laode to create an AI-powered music video for his latest single, “Dunia Yang Nanti.” The music video was premiered at the AI Content Fest 2026 finale, followed by a sharing session with Raim about the creative process behind its production and a live musical performance.
