JAKARTA — The Forum Masyarakat Indonesia Emas (FORMAS), in collaboration with the Beijing Security and Protection Industry Association (BSPIA), held the Indonesia–China Digital City & Security Technology Application Forum 2026 on Monday, Sept. 21, under the theme “Digital Cities, Secure Futures: Advancing China–Indonesia Digital Collaboration.”
The forum, which combined a seminar and technology exhibition, was held at the Foreign Broadcasting Support Auditorium on the second floor of the Radio Republik Indonesia (RRI) building on Jl. Medan Merdeka Barat No. 4–5 in Central Jakarta.
The strategic forum brought together government representatives, organizational leaders, academics, professionals and industry players from Indonesia and China to exchange knowledge, showcase innovations and explore opportunities for cooperation in digital city development and security technology applications.
FORMAS chairman Yohanes Handojo Budhisedjati said digital transformation needed to be accompanied by strong, integrated and sustainable security systems.
“Digital transformation has brought many conveniences, as well as new challenges for society. Therefore, the development of digital cities must go hand in hand with strengthening security systems and public protection,” Handojo said.
“Through this forum, we hope Indonesia and China can share experiences and technologies while building cooperation that delivers tangible benefits for both countries,” he added.
Handojo said the forum also represented FORMAS’ contribution to promoting international collaboration in support of Indonesia’s national development agenda toward the Indonesia Emas 2045 vision.
“FORMAS wants to serve as a bridge connecting the government, business sector, academia and society. We hope this meeting will not stop at an exchange of ideas, but lead to concrete cooperation, investment, technology transfer and human resource development,” he said.
The forum featured speakers from Indonesia as well as Beijing Security and Protection Industry Association chairman Zhang Ying.
In addition to the seminar, the event featured a technology exhibition showcasing solutions and innovations in digital cities, security, public protection and related technologies. The exhibition was expected to facilitate direct communication and cooperation between Indonesian and Chinese industry players.
The event received support from several institutions, including the National Search and Rescue Agency (Basarnas), the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB), the National Counterterrorism Agency (BNPT), the Indonesian National Police, the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs, and Radio Republik Indonesia.
Under the theme “Connecting Digital Cities, Securing Digital Futures,” FORMAS and BSPIA said they hoped the forum would help strengthen Indonesia–China relations while promoting the development of modern, secure, innovative and sustainable cities.
About FORMAS
FORMAS was established as an initiative and follow-up to ideas raised during a national dialogue organized by Vox Point Indonesia, the Indonesian Cyber Media Association (SMSI) and several other organizations at the Press Council building.
The national dialogue, titled “Optimism of the Marginalized and Underprivileged Communities Together with the New Government,” was held on April 27, 2024, during which FORMAS was formally declared. Hashim Djojohadikusumo attended the event and was appointed chairman of FORMAS’ Board of Trustees.
Since its establishment, FORMAS has grown into a collaborative platform bringing together various organizations, associations, foundations, communities and businesses committed to supporting national development toward Indonesia Emas 2045.
The organization aims to facilitate cooperation among communities, the government, businesses, academics and international partners through programs intended to benefit the wider public.
FORMAS deputy chairman of the Board of Trustees Firdaus said the organization had a strategic role in supporting Indonesia’s development toward 2045.
“FORMAS is preparing for Indonesia Emas 2045. Its role is very strategic, bridging two eras as Indonesia moves toward its future,” Firdaus said.
He added that FORMAS had 103 mass organizations and nonprofit institutions as members and was led by Handojo as chairman, Khairul Makhali as secretary-general and Dr. Serian as chairman of its Board of Experts.
“With 103 mass organizations and nonprofit institutions under its umbrella, FORMAS is becoming increasingly solid,” Firdaus said.
