BANDAR LAMPUNG – The Indonesian Cyber Media Union (SMSI) of Lampung Province has stated that it will reject the 2027 National Press Day (HPN) in Lampung Province if the Lampung Provincial Government only supports activities organized by one press organization.
This stance was expressed during a coordination meeting of the SMSI Lampung management to discuss the region’s readiness to face the national agenda for press workers at the SMSI Lampung Provincial Secretariat on Jalan P. Tirtayasa, Sukabumi, Bandar Lampung, Tuesday (7/7/2026).
“If there is no government support and it is only monopolized by one particular organization, SMSI Lampung rejects the holding of HPN in Lampung,” asserted SMSI Lampung Provincial Chairman, Donny Irawan.
The meeting was chaired by SMSI Lampung General Chair Donny Irawan, Daily Chair Fajar Arifin, General Secretary H. Senen, First Deputy Chair Ahmad Syarif, Second Deputy Chair Herzoli Riswan, Treasurer Eci Sumantri, and members of the daily management.
During the meeting, one of the points highlighted was the importance of the Lampung Provincial Government’s support for this national agenda and the involvement of all press organizations in its implementation.
Donny stated that National Press Day (HPN) is a major agenda for the entire Indonesian press community, including professional organizations and press companies.
“HPN doesn’t belong to just one journalist organization. This is a shared agenda for the entire press community. Therefore, its implementation must involve all elements of the press organization; it cannot be dominated by just one organization,” he said.
He stated that the Lampung Provincial Government and regional governments throughout Lampung should understand and be open to the essence of HPN implementation, especially regarding collaborative activities and the distribution of budget support.
“HPN is not a simple event. Thousands of SMSI members from across Indonesia will attend,” he said.
He assessed that the successful implementation of HPN is not only a source of pride for the press community but also affects Lampung Province’s image at the national level, thus requiring the full support of all stakeholders.
“This concerns the reputation of Lampung Province. Therefore, collaboration and support from all stakeholders, including the local government, are needed to ensure the success of the National Press Day (HPN). If the event is well-organized, the reputation of Lampung Province will be good. However, if the event is chaotic, the reputation of Lampung, the host, will be bad,” he said.
According to Donny, a spirit of togetherness is the key to Lampung’s ability to host successfully and demonstrate the solidarity of its press community.
