BANJARBARU – The Indonesian Motor Association (IMI) South Kalimantan stated that the 2026 Banua Rally National Championship (Kejurnas) will be a momentum for the development of potential young rally drivers in the region, after several local racers successfully competed and reached the podium at the national rally event.
IMI South Kalimantan Chairman Edy Sudarmadi stated in Banjarbaru on Sunday evening (May 10th) that the success of young South Kalimantan racers in the 2026 Banua Rally National Championship demonstrates the positive development of motorsports in the region through the support of automotive teams and organizations.
“With the presence of young South Kalimantan racers on the podium, this shows that South Kalimantan can produce high-achieving young racers, and this is certainly something we are very proud of,” said Edy.
He assessed that the 2026 Banua Rally National Championship will not only provide a national competition but also provide a space for development and regeneration for young regional rally drivers, giving them the opportunity to compete at a higher level.
According to him, the presence of a national rally event in South Kalimantan is expected to spark interest among the younger generation in the automotive world and strengthen the racing ecosystem in the region.
“We hope that this event here will ignite the desire of other generations to develop and compete in rally events,” he said.
In addition to rally racers, the South Kalimantan IMI also highlighted the participation of local racers in the UTV class, which they believe demonstrates the growing public enthusiasm for off-road motorsports in South Kalimantan.
Edy stated that the successful implementation of the 2026 Banua Rally National Championship is also an important asset for South Kalimantan to continue developing national and even international rally events in the future.
He stated that the South Kalimantan IMI, together with the local government and various related parties, continues to strive to improve the quality of the event so that South Kalimantan can become a benchmark for national rally events.
“We hope this event in South Kalimantan can serve as a benchmark for other provinces and that in the future, this region will be able to host international-level events,” Edy said.
